Week 5 - July 17th

Larry Guenther directed the Chemical City Band from 1955-79. In this 1951 photo, he is seen with School Superintendent Dr. Ernest Britton as part of announcing his arrival in Midland to start an orchestra program.  Mr. Guenther was the first Music Coordinator for the Midland Schools.

Week 4 - July 10th concert

Here is a 1951 newspaper clipping in which Jim Stark (left) and Ted Nicholson (right) prepare for a concert where Nicholson was to appear as guest conductor of the Midland High School band.  Jim Stark was named Nicholson's successor in 1948, and held that position until his retirement in 1978.
