2022 Season Closing Remarks

The Chemical City Band (CCB) closed its 113th season with a concert on July 27 at the Nicholson-Guenther Community Band Shell in Midland's Central Park.  The weather cooperated again this year with all 7 concerts performed outdoors.  We want to thank all those who donated in the drum shells during the concerts, including a $2 bill, Canadian coins, and 50 cent rolls of pennies.

During the 2022 season, 78 musicians performed at least 1 concert and 9 were present for all 7 concerts.  14 high school and college students participated in addition to 11 current or retired school music directors.  In all, 48 musicians performed each week on average.  We honored one musician with 50 years of performance experience with the CCB, and acknowledged those with 40+ and 30+ years in the band.

The CCB has a 6 member Board of Directors, who are also performing members of the band:

Richard S. Harner, president

Susan Gessford, vice-president

Gaye Terwillegar, secretary

Richard L. Scott, treasurer

Mara Stewart, publicity director

Steve DeRees, music director

In addition to contributions from the general public, the Board would like to acknowledge operating financial support from the Alden and Vada Dow Family Foundation and the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation.  The CCB also participated in the Give Local Midland one-day fundraiser in May, sponsored by the Midland Area Community Foundation.  Contributions to the CCB endowment fund administered by the MACF can be made at any time by indicating the Chemical City Band long term investment fund #545.
