Season ending comments

On the behalf of the band and its Board of Directors, I want to express our thanks to everyone for another great summer concert series. We honored the many contributions of James Stark, and did so through preserving some of his vintage recordings from the 1956-65 era at Midland High School. The band also offered a wide variety of music which included an amazing cornet solo by Midland native Erin Yanacek, who just recently earned a spot as a performing professional in Pittsburgh's River City Brass Band.

Perhaps most importantly, we shared something with you, our audience. We come to realize that music so uniquely expresses the joys and sorrows of our lives. In our outdoor concert setting, the music literature is lighter but no less true to the previous statement; Music is a wonderful gift that performers and listeners share with one another.

For 104 years, the Chemical City Band has shared live music in the parks of the City of Midland. You supported us when the band shell needed to be restored and now we continue to work toward finishing the job; the full funding of an endowment that will ensure the operation of the Chemical City Band for the next 100 years.  If you have not already done so, please consider donating to this fund at the Midland Area Community Foundation:

Be sure the CHEMICAL CITY BAND ENDOWMENT FUND is indicated in the form.

Once again, best wishes to all who attended our concerts this summer. It was truly our pleasure!

Warmest regards,

Jim Huber, music director
